The Good Luck that Comes With Adopting a Black Cat....
DID YOU KNOW?
The same pigment (eumelanin) that creates a black cat's fur also defines their irises, with the majority of black cats having yellow/gold, orange/copper, or green pigmented eyes.
The myth that black cats are associated with superstition or bad luck has long been busted! Black cats are friendly, affectionate, and playful, and are known to form strong bonds with their humans. They are recognisable by their elegant and captivating looks, with a dark coat that accentuates beautifully vibrant eyes. Their coats are normally sleek and shiny and will often glisten in the sunlight. Black cats require the same level of love and care as any regular & healthy cat, being regular vaccinations, a balanced diet, grooming (particularly if medium or long hair), and opportunities for play, exercise and enrichment.
The only downside of cats with this gloriously unique coat is that they are often not noticed during the adoption process. Their dark colouring makes them tricky to photograph, meaning they don’t stand out as much in a ‘line up’ against other more colourful options. However, those who have been lucky enough to adopt a black cat, describe them as great companions who bring many years of endless joy and love.
OAAT Pet Rescue has rescued and rehomed many black kittens and cats over the past few years. Each had their own unique story and personality, and all found forever and loving homes.
